At this event, audiences will delight in a live performance by the
renowned GEIKO (Kyoto’s name for “GEISHA”) “FUMINO” and MAIKO “MIZUNO” from ‘Gion-Kobu’,
the largest, most stylish, and most beloved of Kyoto’s five historic geisha districts.
The performance will be set to live music from a traditional accompanist.
A show of artistic technique steeped in tradition and a new production sure to make for a fitting finale
at the year’s last show at ‘Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall’
will combine to create a vision of Japan that is both truly authentic, and entirely new.
We invite you to enjoy an evening of the understated beauty and refined culture of Kyoto,
as we bring to life the geisha districts of the Edo period (1603-1868) here in the modern day.
‘Kyo-mai (Kyoto dance)’
‘Kyo-mai’ is one of the schools of traditional Japanese dance.
Considered a member of the Kyoto regional family of
dance styles ‘kamigatamai (dance developed in Kyoto and Osaka)’,
‘Kyo-mai’ is named for having originated and developed within the city itself.
This style is distinguished by its use of physical techniques from the waist up to express emotion.
